Volunteers are a special group of people assisting, participating in, developing and promoting park activities.
The volunteer program began in April of 1982, when volunteers and the staff naturalist conducted the first school programs. The program has grown steadily, with more than 30 people lending their knowledge, experience and talent to a variety of important park efforts.
In addition to school programs, volunteers conduct public hikes about birds, wildflowers, insects and poisonous and edible plants. They also help with design, construction, and maintenance of exhibits; assist with plant and wildlife surveys; construct, place and monitor birdhouses; take photographs and write articles for publications.
