Trail Conditions will be reported as they become available.
After 6-8” of very dry snow 3 days ago, all trails were re-rolled and again tracked. Track walls are soft because of minimal snow moisture. Hopefully, they will firm up over night. The yellow-green trail south of Clark Lake was tracked, but a few areas are shallow with some tree litter. Trails for the most part are in excellent condition for classic cross country skiers.
Whitefish Dunes State Park has two winter trails for hikers and snowshoers. The Black Trail begins near the picnic shelter and tracks to the north across Schauer Rd towards Cave Point County Park. There are 1.2 mile, 2.1 mile loops.
On the west end of the park, originating from the Red Pine parking lot, is a new 1.2 mile snowshoe or hiking trail. Dogs on leashes are welcome. The trail winds down to Whitefish Bay Creek and the back through the towering red pines. A very scenic trail, especially with the snow covered firs.
The other park trails are groomed for classic cross country skiing.
